Our care is delivered by a collaborative team of specialist dermatologists, dermatology associates, and registered nurses qualified in Skin Cancer Management. Together, we provide comprehensive care across skin cancer management, medical dermatology, acne treatment, and AI-assisted skin checks — with a strong focus on safety, continuity, and patient comfort.

    Dr Mairi Ferguson

    Dr Ferguson is a specialist dermatologist and Mohs’ Surgeon. She graduated from the University of Glasgow medical school in 2002. She completed the post-graduate medical membership exams in 2008. She then entered a dermatology training  scheme in Ireland which she completed in 2015. Following this, she completed an intensive fellowship year in Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery and Skin Surgery at the prestigious Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she obtained a qualification as a Mohs’ Surgeon by the British Association of Dermatologists.

    Dr Ferguson moved to New Zealand 12 years ago.  She is now a fellow of both the New Zealand Dermatology Society (NZDSI) and the Royal Australasian College of Dermatologists (RACP). She is a member of the NZDSI continuous professional development (CPD) team and the dermatology curriculum review group.

    In her free time, she loves hiking and biking the beautiful and rugged landscapes of Te Wai Pounamu.

    Dr Cristina Mello

    Dr Mello is a consultant dermatologist with more than 15 years of experience. She  obtained her specialist medical and surgical dermatology training at Campinas State University (UNICAMP) in Brazil. During the past decade she has been working with general dermatology with a special focus on Hair and Nail disorders. Until March 2022,Dr Mello was an associate Professor at Campinas State University, responsible for the Hair and Nail Clinic and supervising undergraduate medical students and Dermatology trainees. Dr Mello is currently finishing her Ph.D. studying Psoriasis. She is a Member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and part of its International Affairs Committee. Dr Mello is also a Member of the American Council for Nail Disorders and the European Nail Society. She moved to New Zealand with her family in April 2022 and is having a fantastic time in Aotearoa. Dr Mello is looking forward to working in Christchurch and helping my new community.

    Dr. Harmony Thompson

    Dr Harmony Thompson is a consultant dermatologist. She grew up in Christchurch and completed her medical degree at the University of Otago, followed by early clinical experience and internal medicine training at Christchurch Hospital. She later completed a Master’s degree at the University of Auckland, researching the role of Artificial Intelligence in primary care for skin cancer management. Dr Thompson worked in dermatology departments across New Zealand — including Christchurch, Waikato, Greenlane, and Middlemore Hospitals — before relocating to Lincolnshire, UK, to complete her specialist dermatology training. It's lovely to return the beautiful New Zealand and its wonderful community.
    Her clinical interests include complex inflammatory dermatoses, systemic diseases with cutaneous manifestations, and skin cancer management.

    Dr. Julia Zhu

    Dr. Julia Zhu is a specialist dermatologist with dual qualifications in dermatology and general medicine. She is one of only two dermatologists in New Zealand to hold specialist qualifications in both fields, allowing her to take a comprehensive and holistic approach to skin disease.

    She completed her dermatology training in Christchurch, Auckland and Waikato, and undertook further training at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. Her training across major centres in New Zealand and the United Kingdom has provided broad experience in both general and complex dermatology. She is also involved in medical school teaching and is a senior clinical lecturer with the University of Otago.

    Dr. Julia Zhu has interests in inflammatory dermatoses, vulval and genital dermatology, and skin cancers. She is experienced in caring for patients with chronic inflammatory and autoimmune skin conditions, as well as providing thorough skin cancer assessment and treatment.

    Terence graduated from Otago University in 2010, working in a wide variety of surgical roles and gaining a wealth of surgical experience before undertaking and completing General Practice training in 2018.

    During his training for General Practice, he became an accredited doctor with the Skin cancer college of Australasia in 2017 and has furthered his knowledge with additional advanced clinical certificates in dermoscopy and skin cancer medicine and surgery.

    Outside of medicine, he enjoys modern board games, cooking, pilates, playing the piano, going out for live music and somehow raising 2 kids to love all this too.

    After graduating from Aberdeen university in 2000, Sarah moved to New Zealand in 2001 and initially undertook training in anaesthetics. With the arrival of her children she switched to General Practice and completed fellowship in 2016. As part of her GP practice she completed the certificate in dermoscopy in 2018 and has been practising skin checks since then as part of her general practice. Sarah completed the advanced certificate in 2024, and now enjoys the chance to work in a dedicated skin clinic. 
    Outside of medicine Sarah enjoys spending time in the outdoors - both the garden and further afield tramping and biking. She is also a cub scout leader and most importantly mother to two girls!

    Kate graduated from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 2005. She worked in general internal medicine for 4 years, passing her physician’s exams, before undertaking further training in General Practice in her home county of Dorset, in the South West of England.

    Kate moved to Christchurch in March 2018 with her husband, an ophthalmic surgeon, and two young daughters.

    Kate has ran a specialised acne clinic for 3 years. Her extensive knowledge in general medicine, and her holistic approach to acne treatments have resulted in a very popular and sought after clinic.

    Andree has been nursing for over 30 years. She trained in Invercargill at Southland Hospital before leaving to work in Australia and the UK.
    She has been working at Dermatology Doctors for over 4 years and has completed her professional certificate in Dermoscopy and professional certificate of Melanography.

    In her spare time Andree enjoys running, tennis and has recently taken up Pickle Ball.

    Mary has been nursing for over 10 years, having trained in Invercargill at Southern Institute of Technology. Her working history is mainly in district nursing and practice nursing, which has taken her around NZ and South Australia.
    Mary now resides in Christchurch with her partner and their two young sons. 

    Mary is working towards her Certificate in Dermoscopy.

    Amy completed her registered nurse training at Waikato Polytechnic and from there has been nursing for over 25 years in a variety of nurse roles in Aotearoa and overseas.
    Amy and her family relocated back to Christchurch beginning of 2026 and that's when she joined the team at Dermatology Doctors.  Prior to moving to Christchurch they were based in Kaikoura and was working as a district and practice nurse.  
    Amy is currently completing courses in both professional and advanced certificate in melanography to upskill in the dermatology field. 
    Outside of working Amy loves spending time with her husband and 2 children. She enjoys playing sports and being outdoors.  Amy looks forward to travelling again once her children have left home.
